Over 50,000 refractions have been performed!

In an article "Better Vision for the Poor" by Aneel Kamani, written in the Stanford Social Innovation Review - Spring 2011, it describes the major impact that vision impairment has in rural India.

Simple glasses can have dramatic economic, public safety and social implications.  They can help in common activities such as sewing, farming, reading and cooking.  In addition, it is very difficult for a poor person to travel from a rural village to a city in order to get glasses.  Travel time, expenses and lack of transportation are all barriers.  Moreover, there is very little access to healthcare and eye care in the villages.

Having performed multiple eye camps, our experience mirrors the information in this article.  There is a huge need for eyeglasses and cataract surgery.  About 1 in 11 children need glasses and approximately 1 in 20 seniors need cataract surgery.

Just $5.00 can pay for a complete refraction plus an eye exam and glasses for a child.  And approximately $60 can pay for one cataract surgery which inclues an exam and eyedrops and intraocular lens.
